Clay, our most Ancient Healer!

Bentonite Clay an Overview:

I was first introduced to the idea of using clay as a healing agent way back in 1980. I have consistently used it ever since. The healing properties of clay are so numerous and it's actions so positive you could literally write volumes and still not cover all it's potential. My first use of bentonite clay was an infected in-grown toenail. I applied a poultice of clay, wrapped it in gauze and left it on overnight. The next morning all the pus and infection was gone. Later that day I was able to excise the offending ingrown nail portion, it bled a bit and by the following day it was healing and pain free. I was amazed and wanted to learn more. Shortly after that I found the most amazing book on the subject of clay and it's healing properties, "Our Earth, Our Cure" by Raymond Dextreit a prominent French physician, naturopathic and nutritionist, who mainly divulged the natural cure through clay. His definitive book was translated into English by Michel Abehsera. Unfortunately the English version is out of print, but you can occasionally find it on Ebay. I was fortunate many years ago to take have an medicinal herbs course from Michel. An amazing and dedicated healer!

Bentonite clay powerfully draws heavy metals, toxic cellular byproducts, parasites and infections from the blood when taken orally or used internally via the vagina as a suppository or the colon as an infusion or retention enema. External applications will draw impurities and infections from the skin. It's a wonderful regular treatment for acne when used both externally and internally.  Taken orally it not only detoxifies the body assisting the liver to clear out toxins, but it also increases in volume and functionality the red blood cells. This is due to the high mineral content of clay. The trace mineral in the clay are a dramatic boost to your mineral levels which are essential to the proper function of your glandular systems.
As a Wellness Consultant working with cancer patients and lymes disease sufferers, I have found the detoxifying effects of the clay used in a retention enema to provide much relief from the toxic byproducts of the intense treatment protocols these patients are undertaking. Additional benefits come from the contact of the clay with the blood stream via the intensely rich capillary network of the colon. With autistic children who often suffer from constipation the clay enema alleviates the constipation and provides much needed detoxification of the bowels which are as a general rule deranged and full of unwanted microorganisms and parasites.

Directions for using clay at home:

Getting started: To start using clay add approximately 1/4 cup of clay to a 1 qt. or 24 oz mason jar. It's best to use the wide mouth variety of jar with the plastic lids they sell for these jars. (The metal ring lids will rust quickly and are difficult to take on and off.) I've used a lot of clays over the years and Aztec Healing Clay is my favorite!
I've usedUpon first use you will fill the jar with water, not tap. RO or any other processed for purity water or spring water (best source) is fine. Shake the jar vigorously, then open and stir the contents up a bit more, shake again. Let it sit overnight and in the AM drink the clay'ish water, replenish the jar by refilling with water and shaking it up a bit to pull more of the clay into the water. See note below.

Oral use: I recommend drinking the clayish water that remains in the mason jar (see photos). I drink the clayish water every AM on an empty stomach after I have had my AM tea or other hot beverage one might start the day with. To this I add humic/fulvic acid supplement from Keto Kerri as an additional compliment to detoxification.

Fulvic/Humic acid is a super-nutrient that literally comes from the soil. Eating a little dirt is good for you! These acids are organic compounds found in water and soil that are created through decomposition. Soil is a nutrient source that is extremely important for helping to boost the effectiveness of the immune system, aid digestion, detoxification supporting overall health. Farmers used to reintroduce compost and organic compounds to the soil after a round of crops, in addition to rotating crops to ensure nutrients were getting back into the soil. This is more sustainable, better for the environment, and better for those consuming the crops grown. Commercialized farming does not allow the soil to rest and replenish organic matter, so these nutrients are not present in food grown in over worked soils. Depleted over farmed soils mean that our bodies are lacking the humic and fulvic acids they need for optimal health.

Humic/Fulvic Acid:  Provide a good solution supplementing the missing soil nutrients. Additionally humic/fulvic acids are antimicrobial. With the rate of parasitic infections at an all-time high, conventional medicine testing and treatment does not live up to the demand. Truthfully, nearly all of us are living with pathogens and parasites, and even if they’re not causing any destructive symptoms, they could be negatively impacting your health. If pathogens are causing symptoms, like digestive issues, cramping, itching, rashes, or many other possible clues, fulvic acid can be a beneficial addition to your cleansing protocol.

Recent studies have shown that fulvic acid fights pathogens and boosts antioxidants, which are very important in preventing oxidative stress and maintaining a healthy immune system. Studies have found fulvic acid to be useful topically against fungal and bacterial pathogens like staph strains resistant to other drugs.
Keto Kerri  is my brand of choice! Humic/Fulvic acid can also be added to retention enemas or colonic infusions!

When using for a retention enema: You simply shake up the jar to loosen up the soft clay at the bottom of the jar. the heavier portion of clay will remain in the bottom of the jar, but the watery part will have become much thicker and cloudy. This is the part you will drain off to use for your enema or douche. This liquid clay can also be added to a coffee enema as an add-on for even greater detoxification.

Using clay as a poultice: Use a ceramic bowl, place into as much clay as you will need to create a flat thick pancake like poultice. Gradually add warm water or herbal infusion, mixing with the square end of a chop stick, trust me! Keep working with the balance of water to clay until you get a doughy consistency that you can shape to fit the area for treatment. Amounts used will depend on application area. For a liver poultice you will use about 1/2 cup of clay. For a zit only a tiny bit! Clay is best applied warm, so place the poultice on a large enough piece of soft flannel or old T-shirt knit. Moisten the fabric and microwave for 15 - 20 seconds. If it's too hot, just wait a bit for it to cool then apply making sure the edges of the clay adhere to the skin. You may need to add a bit of water to work the edges down and even wet the surface to get it to stick on. The basic rule of how long to keep the clay on is easy....it will pull away when it's work is done! Poultice applications can be used more than once. Place the used poultice in the sun to dry, then put it back in your clay storage container add water until it softens back up and voi'la it's ready to go back to work!

NOTE: You may occasionally have to stir the settled clay to get it to disperse into the water. Allow it to settle overnight and begin again to drink the water and refill each AM. The plastic lids are not a perfect seal, so always put a cloth over the lid when you are shaking up your clay water to remix.

I'm excited to update this post with an exciting new find! Having used bentonite for years for a wide variety of treatments, including poultices which can be quite messy to prepare I was delighted to run across this product, Sore No More. A pure bentonite clay with added herbs; Arnica Montana, Rosemary, Lavender and Lobelia. It's preserved with a completely benign sodium borate.
NOT FOR ORAL USE
This Sore No-More Equine poultice is perfectly suitable for humans! Believe me when I say horses get the primo goods! Clay poultices can be used to reduce edema, swelling, pull out pus from infections, dry out oozing sores. It is excellent applied to the lower abdomen for menstruation difficulties or pelvic inflammation. I recommend anyone with chronic illness of any kind to use it for a liver poultice. It will draw toxins out directly  through the skin. I makes a great facial mask, to draw impurities and tighten the facial tissues.
The convenience of not having to mix the clay is wonderful. You can save each poultice after it is used, place in a dish and keep in the sun for a couple of weeks. The sun will dry the clay out completely killing any bacteria that have been drawn out by the clay. Once you've gone through the whole container simply place the dried remains in the bucket and remoisten for future use.

Hello

I'm reading the information on 'Sore no more' - I'm in England and looking on Ebay.
The product with the same name is made of gel - do they not do the clay version anymore?

With thanks

Amazon is the source I have found most reliable. Here's link, now I am unsure of Amazon UK will have it.

https://www.amazon.com/Sore-No-More-Cooling-Clay-Poultice/dp/B0069ZO4T8

If no luck there, search for tack and equine suppliers, this stuff is the bomb for horses. I first heard about it from a horse owner and trainer. It cannot be sold for humans because of our FDA!

Hello again Vanessa

I looked on Amazon UK and again: it's the gel they are selling under this brand name. I will as you suggest: look at equine suppliers..

I have the book The Healing Power of Clay by Raymond Dextreit - he mentions clearing water of toxins in it but pertinently: doesn't advise how to do that.
Like how much clay would clear how much water? And could it be reused?
Would you be able to advise me on that please? (We are currently drinking tap water which I know is not good..)

Also I want to do some body mud packs: I was advised to use a very expensive aloe vera product (which is out of the question) and wondered if I could use:
some clay
some chlorella powder
and some organic flax seed oil to moisten both?

Would that be alright do you think?
And how long do you leave it on for?

Raymond's book is fantastic but gives differing information for every ailment which can be confusing for total new starters!

With thanks
Maureen

If you could email me the page numbers of the recommendation to clear water with clay, I'll take a look at it. It is a marvelous book, I've been using it as reference for over 30 years.

To be able to answer your questions specifically I would need to have a better understanding of the conditions you are dealing with. Go to my booking link at the bottom of each page of my website and schedule a 15 minute Wellness Consult". Our Am here is your afternoon in the UK. We can talk a bit in more detail this way. I work with folks all over!

The clay itself will let you know how long to leave it on when using as a poultice. It will naturally start lifting off! The clay you are using is important as well. What source do you have?

As for tap water use this search phrase, "using clay to purify water".

Hello again Vanessa

I didn't realise that you had answered my questions! I didn't get a notification this time!

Anyways thank you!

I will do as you suggest but in the meantime: we have made ourselves a clay drink (twice now): how many times can you re-use the same spoonful of clay?
And what do you do with the clay you have finished with after this procedure? We wondered if there was something else we could utilise it for instead of just throwing it away?

Regards
Maureen

Maureen,
Oh my Goodness....I was literally just thinking of you when your comment came through to my email box!

Any used clay can be laid out in the sun to dry. If it's rainy outdoors, dry it in the house and then when you get a sunny day, set it out to "recharge". It can be rehydrated to be used again.
It really is a miraculous healer!!

Wow that was prompt!

Thank you for that: how many times though would you add your water to the same spoonful of clay? We've used one tsp full 3 times now..
(Before you recharge it in the sunshine..?)

I actually use about 1/2 of a cup of clay in a 24 - 32 oz jar. I fill it up as shown in the blog and let it soften. When the water settles you can then start drinking the liquid in the AM's and before bed at night.

I refill each evening, the water settles over night and I use that water the next day. This way you can go for weeks and weeks with he same clay, eventually the clay will be gone and you can start over. But do take breaks occasionally taking a week off.

Oh right - so using the same premise - we could carry using our tsp full (in a glass cup) until there is none left?

We've only just started to drink it this week (in the am): how quickly would you start to drink it last thing at night too?

And is it correct: that it is best to shake it rather than stir (rather like James Bond!) or does it not matter?

With thanks again
Maureen

Sorry for the delay, we were out of town.

I would add in AM and PM anytime now, as your system has already started adapting to it.

You'll see from my pictures that I have about 1/3 of the jar full with the clay. I don't want to have to fuss to make a new jar by using only a small amount. The refilling it in the am is enough of a "stirring up", by evening it will settle back down.

Hello again Vanessa

Thank you for your response..

You asked which clay we were using - it's a superfine green Montmorillonite (I think it's primarily for face masks) but we purchased it for mud packs on our bodies and then read about drinking it and since that is all we had..

I notice that you recommend the Aztec Healing Clay - I think that is much more affordable..

So the glass you have in your photo is the 32fl oz mason jar? It's hard to gauge size without it being next to something else!

The separate glasses we have been using do not have lids (but we cover them over as they rest all day) - will this be alright?

Thank you for answering my questions - the company we purchased the clay from in my country does not want to help with answering my very valid questions!
What a strange company to be sure! They don't deserve my business..

Good energy to you
Maureen

Sorry for the delay Maureen, it's a 24 oz mason jar. Some business folks seem to operate on serologic, but if they were to answer your questions that could be implied as giving medical advise.

I use the jar because it has a lid and if I choose to use some of the clay as an enema infusion I can easily shake it up and pour off a more concentrated solution.

Keep me posted on your progress!

Very good page! Informative and helpful!

I want to cleanse detox my two kids. B 4 and b 7.

I am considering giving clay enemas. Do you think the clay enema would help?

I purchased a 8 oz rubber reusable enema bulb syringe. Haven’t used it yet.

Give a daily clay enema for how many days?

Carol, I'm so sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I was out of the country for a while and I've just been swamped!
I have used bentonite clay with children.
Make sure that the clay is fairly diluted when you use it follow the recommendations for the clay in the jar with water giving the jar a little shake and using approximately 4 ounces of clay water with RO or spring water.

But I must ask you why you're planning on giving your children enemas using the clay?
Are they constipated? Or, is there another purpose as they are quite young and that can be a little traumatizing for them.

If it's all about minerals and wanting to help them to detox just have them drink the lightly clayish water off the top of the jar every morning for about a month and then take a break for two weeks and then do it again.
